Religion in Ecuador

On the bus.  Notice the etching of Jesus on the glass right behind the driver.

A cross built between two buildings

The huge church where we attended several Holy Week concerts.  Click on the picture so you can see how beautiful it is.

There were many vendors selling little bunches of palm leaves with flowers and crosses all week.

All the items for making fanesca except for the fish

A shrine in one of the indigenous markets.  The houses often have shrines, as well.

I got roundly scolded for taking this picture by a tiny elderle indigenous woman who said it was wrong to take a picture of Jesus.  I saw how badly I had offended her and apologized.

I love this shrine which is outside on our way to the supermarket.  It's carved from the trunk of a tree and Mary is dark brown.  Why shouldn't Mary be brown?

The beginning of the parade outside our house this morning.

End of the parade.  See the loudspeaker and the man with the guitar behind it.
